Humor is the "recognition and expression of incongruities or peculiarities in a situation or character...it illustrates some fundamental absurdity in human nature or conduct." (Webster's Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged Edition) It often involves an individual or something being observed, frequently involving a visual or nonverbal component, and it is in a playful context. On the other hand, wit is the "quick apprehension and ingenuous and apt expression of the connections or analogous properties between things seemingly unlike." What is the relationship on the differences to creativity? Psychological studies (eg.Tierney, Farmer, and Graen (1999)) utilizing tests involving humor for measuring creativity have found that those who exercised the tasks were more creative than those who were not participants. As those in my world can attest, I love to laugh so humorous situations are usually welcome. At the beginning of the year, I decided that with the belief that wit and humor enhances creativity, I will apply these to hone my talents and interests. Wit can have degrees of playfulness (mischief, pranks included) "Art is like soup. There will be some vegetables you don't like but as long as you get some soup down you, it doesn't matter" ~ George Wylle, on modern art~ (Re-posted from my other site dated Friday, February 18, 2011)

Live a More Pawsitive LifeA background and career as an educator has had me exploring, discovering, and associating with inspirational individuals who have touched others' lives and contributed in ways which make the world a better place. One does not require erudite credentials to effectively foster learning and I think we would each like 'discere et docere" ( to learn and to teach). None better than my puppy who has turned one this month.
The Optimal Optimist has given a list of what dogs would advise us if they were our teachers. ~ Always run to greet loved ones when they come home ~ Never pass the opportunity to go for a joy ride ~ Recognize the ecstasy of fresh air and wind in your face ~ Take naps and stretch before rising ~ Run, romp, and play daily ~ Thrive on attention and love ~ Avoid biting when a simple growl will do ~ On warm days, lie on your back in the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and find the shade ~ When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body ~ Enjoy long walks ~ Be loyal ~ Never pretend to be somebody you're not ~ If what you want is buried, dig deep until you find it ~ And, when someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently (A re-post dated June 15, 2013 from my other site) The Art of Creative LivingI am, by nature, a very inquisitive and imaginative individual and generally speaking, am optimistic, patient, tolerant, and pragmatic- a few descriptors which can certainly help the creative processes. But, throw in a bit of perfectionism and therein may lie one of the impediments to some glorious creation.
Artists who seek perfection in everything are those who cannot attain it in anything ~ Eugene Delacroix~ This particular blog was posted on January 20, 2011 on my other site and it's interesting to note that I have changed somewhat with the perfectionist trait. Since that time I have become a dog owner. More on the next blog.... Re-posted from my other site dated January 20, 2011 |
